I used the very excellent How To Draw Zombies by Mike Butkus & Merrie Destefano for some hints and tips on how to zombify a face. (Reviewed here.)
Done in my small sketchbook. Over a background of ink that had come through from the other side, lightly clear gessoed and sanded. The face had a base coat of white gouache and then coloured with oil pastels. The large purple eye is the ink from the background - I liked the colour so incorporated it as the eye.
Shall I mention how I freaked myself out drawing this little cutie? Nah. I'll just blame the episode of Whitechapel I watched the other night for giving me the jitters.
Thanks for stopping by today :)
OMG what a scary face! I say you rocked the Zombie!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours and technique you used, though I'm not a fan of zombies! :-)
ReplyDeleteGoing to follow you like ghost now ;-)

ReplyDeleteAMAZING! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI saw this on my wall when I was flipping through and I had to come back so I could pin it and tell you how awesome you are.
I can say this is interesting, expertly done, original, artistic, and truly good. But goodness me she is still giving me the shivers. I'm scared of the dark anyway, and if she were around I'd be cowering under the bed ....... but I suppose even that wouldn't be safe.
ReplyDeleteVery cool!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!! omg fanflippintastic! Off to follow the zombie link.
ReplyDeleteAs cold, walking dead, female zombies go, she is HOT!! Love her, love how you used the colour bleed through to your advantage, love that you did a zombie (on Friday 13th!!).

ReplyDeleteWow, What a great zombie! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not easy to paint a really scary face - you did a fantastic job. Love the colors and how you incorporated the ink that bled through the other side.
ReplyDeleteHi Carmen!! YESSSSSS! SO awesome! I LOVE THIS (am I yelling at you?) - the colors, the mouth and especially those eyes! Bravo.
ReplyDeleteAND thank you for your sweet message: Yes, we're using an online charter school. So I get the help of a teacher's assistant to help me with any questions, get to pick out my curriculum (which includes the core stuff), have a lesson plan provided for me (which I like) and get all of the same holidays that the other schools do. SO, turns out, I LOVE it! Seriously, it's really fun and pretty easy so far - the fact that she's only 7 helps :) - but I am surprised with my own reaction. So far, so good :))) Kiss the baby for me! xoxo
Fantastically hideous!! He creeps me out, too! Love the purple seepage for the eye....it just adds a bit of the unexpected!
ReplyDeleteThis is great!
You and oil pastels seem meant to be!
A mermie in this style would be lovely :)
Big hugs,
Cam
